WHO WE ARE

The impact of climate change throughout the Kenyan Coast spreads across many aspects of society with great implications on food chains and water security to livelihoods and economic stability.

The Sustainable Development Goal 11 on Sustainable Communities and Cities and SDG 13 on Climate Change provides a concrete context for progressive dialogue and an immediate opportunity for multi-sectoral action on climate change.

Demographically, the Kenyan population is overwhelmingly young, the input and leadership of the rising generation will be key to mitigating the emerging climate emergency.

01 Blue Economy

The health of our ocean is facing immense strain from human activities including climate change, haphazard fishing, and growing levels of pollution. For coastal communities, the ocean’s resources and opportunities are crucial in battling hunger & unemployment

02 Youth and Climate Action

03 Renewable & Clean Energy Transition

Islands are good locations for testing new technologies of energy production and storage. Most islands have good renewable energy potential, often underused. Renewable energy solutions can be commercially appealing, resulting in significant cost savings.

04 Climate Finance

Climate Justice in Africa is needed for mitigation and adaptation, as significant financial resources are required to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the adverse effects of a changing climate

05 Sustainable Consumption & Production

Promoting the circular economy in the global south is critical to mitigating waste and regenerating nature that has significantly been degraded by years of extraction for linear production and consumption.

06 Agriculture & Food Security

Agriculture is one of the most vulnerable sectors to climate change impacts with implications to food security, water security, livelihoods and economic stability. With these vulnerabilities and as populations expand, agricultural production must become more efficient.
